A style test for a personal project I've been working on. This is a big nod to Jake Wyatt's illustration style, though I wanted to stay with my own linework style and not parrot his. I'll probably take the project a different way but this was a fun aside.

Monster Girls
A couple months ago some friends at work decided to participate in an online challenge: draw 30 monster girls, preferably one a day, and see what everyone comes up with. None of us made it all the way to the end, mostly out of time constraints, but some fun pieces came out of it all the same. Of the about a dozen I did, these are my personal favorites. Please note that there's nudity in these, so sensitive eyes look away!
Mouse Guard
Still alive, and I've done some work! And now I finally feel like posting it, so this is the first of several impending posts. While I was out I discovered David Petersen's Mouse Guard and fell in love with both the world scenario and the art—I've personally not seen anything like it in comics (in my limited experience. I was so captivated by it, that I thought, why not indulge in giving it a go myself?
Give the books a gander, and if you're one for tabletop role-playing games, maybe consider giving that a try too. :)

While I was digging through some old files tonight I stumbled across this sketch I did for a card while employed at American Greetings that went unused. I was never 100% keen on the final, but this preliminary sketch came out just fine. ;)
Hero of Time Revisited

In a strange sort of twist, while I am only just now putting up this sketch from my series of personal interpretations of The Legend of Zelda, it was actually the first; the one that got the ball rolling, really. There are still plenty of other characters and creatures I'd love to visit at some point, time permitting...
Stalfos Knight

I've always liked the Stalfos from The Legend of Zelda because they're understandable; you could tell very easily they were animated human skeletons, no matter the pixel count. The Stalfos in Twilight Princess strayed too far from this for my liking—they look like they were monsters even before death, and their gear was entirely too fetishistic of skulls (see: Arthas). Personally, I'd prefer to take it back to a more subtle form, as though they were the reanimated corpses of a defeated invading kingdom's knights. They sport similar but slightly different heraldry than Hyrule to hint at a disastrous desire for power.

Reading GameSpite's take on Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past in their newest Quarterly got me reminiscing on the feeling I used to get from playing the game when I was a wee lad. It was colorful and adventurous, with a little grit, like everything was eroded by sand, wind, and time. That feeling made me want to explore creating my ideal interpretation of Link, with bits and pieces of his design that I liked throughout the years amalgamated into one. This definitely needs coloring to really get my idea across, but for now I thought I'd share this sketch.
